Golden LEAF announces funding cap increase in Open Grants Program

June 13, 2024

At the June 2024 meeting, the Golden LEAF Board of Directors increased the maximum funding for all Open Grants Program awards to $500,000.

Historically, the Open Grants Program has awarded $200,000 or less in funding for projects. In June 2021, the Golden LEAF Board opened the opportunity for funding up to $500,000 for projects that met additional criteria. The June 2024 decision allows all eligible applicants to request up to $500,000.

“The Open Grants Program allows eligible applicants to apply for funding throughout the year,” said Golden LEAF President, Chief Executive Officer Scott T. Hamilton. “Increasing the cap on the Open Grants Program will help the Golden LEAF Board be more responsive to projects strengthening North Carolina’s economy, especially in tobacco-dependent, economically distressed, and/or rural communities.”

The Open Grants Program supports economic development projects aligned with Golden LEAF priority areas: Job Creation and Economic Investment, Workforce Preparedness, and Agriculture.
