Description:

This grant provided funding to the City of Whiteville to mitigate frequent flooding experienced in the area surrounding Mollie’s Branch during heavy rainfall events not affiliated with tropical systems. The neighborhood also suffered catastrophic flood events during Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. Households in the area benefitted from this project. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds were used for surveying, design/engineering, environmental review, and permitting required to advance from a schematic plan to a complete set of permit-level drawings for the Mollie’s Branch restoration and infrastructure improvement project.

The City of Whiteville was recently awarded a FEMA BRIC grant for construction of the project. The application received the highest priority ranking from the NCEM State-Level Prioritization Panel in November.
