Following Hurricane Matthew, the Town of Pembroke evaluated its existing stormwater infrastructure and identified areas of failure or inadequacy. The town was awarded a grant for stormwater improvements through the Department of Commerce’s disaster recovery grant program. Construction was underway; however, the project costs increased due to damages caused by Hurricane Florence and other unforeseen circumstances. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds reimbursed the town for the costs incurred as a direct result of Hurricane Florence.
