The grant provided funding to the Town of Benson for the Public Works facility that was damaged during Hurricane Matthew when a 60-inch storm drainpipe adjacent to the facility was unearthed and ruptured, causing severe damage to the storage facility, multiple vehicles, heavy equipment, and items stored outdoors. The Town purchased an available building and associated land adjacent to the site to serve as the new Public Works building. This new building was located at a higher elevation and did not flood during Hurricane Matthew. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were used to improve the site, upfit the building, replace equipment, and cover other related costs.
