This award provides funding to Edgecombe County Public Schools to establish a welding program at Tarboro High School in partnership with Edgecombe Community College. The project will include the development of a welding lab equipped with eight welding booths, enabling 30 high school students to earn industry-recognized welding credentials through the community college. Edgecombe Community College will also provide a qualified instructor to teach the program. The project anticipates that at least half of the participating students will engage in pre-apprenticeships and other work-based learning opportunities, preparing them for careers in local industries. Golden LEAF funds will be used to support construction and equipment costs.
