This grant provides funding to install a waterline in the West Smithfield area to support economic development in Smithfield and Johnston County. This project is part of a larger effort to increase the supply of water from the Town of Smithfield to the Johnston County delivery point along US-70, which will help Johnston County meet the growing demand for water in the Clayton area, including at Novo Nordisk and Grifols, which are both expanding. The line will also serve an industrial park that is being created in Smithfield adjacent to the line’s location. Golden LEAF funds would be used for waterline construction.
