Description:
This award provides funding to Guilford County Schools (GCS) for a Signature Career Academy (SCA) of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering at Southeast Guilford High School, located in rural Guilford County. This SCA will offer Career and Technical Education pathways that are focused on advanced manufacturing and engineering. This SCA is nine miles from Toyota’s new battery manufacturing plant. Toyota is investing $450,000 to support work-based learning in Guilford County. Forty ninth grade students will be admitted to the new program each year toward a goal of having 160 students in the program by the fourth year. By the 2028-29 school year, GCS expects that 95 students will complete a pathway in advanced manufacturing or engineering. Students are also expected to earn third-party credentials and participate in work-based learning. Golden LEAF funds will be used for the renovation and upfit of space at Southeast Guilford High School.
