The Genoa Lift Station had frequently been subjected to flooding, most recently by Hurricane Matthew. This sewer system served residential and commercial customers south of the Neuse River in the Mar Mac area. The Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds enabled Wayne County to rebuild the lift station with elevations that met regulatory flood prevention levels to avoid future damage. By replacing and elevating this lift station, Wayne County aimed to keep the residential and commercial sewer lines intact and avoid disruption of service. The project also helped to eliminate the environmental concerns associated with the existing station.
