This grant provided funding to the Town of Seaboard to improve the town’s wastewater treatment plant, which was constructed in 1935. The town’s largest utility customer is West Fraser Timber Company Ltd. which operates a 155-employee, lumber manufacturing facility. The NC Department of Commerce awarded a grant to support a three-phase modernization of the West Fraser facilities, retaining the 155 jobs. Department of Commerce funds extended municipal wastewater service from West Fraser to the Seaboard wastewater system. The repairs to the town’s treatment plant were needed to accommodate the additional flow. Golden LEAF funds assisted with construction and engineering costs.
