After Topical Storm Fred, Rhoda Street experienced severe washout and soil
backfills adjacent to, and atop the culvert ends. Erosion also occurred along the channel banks of the Pigeon River Tributary. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used to install a concrete box culvert and associated public stormwater infrastructure. Installation of the box culvert will increase the capacity of the system to accommodate a 10-year 24-hour storm event. Households in the area will benefit from the project. Rhoda Street also serves as a route for access to Meadowbrook Elementary School, which serves approximately 219 students. A child development center, the local middle school, the local high school, and nearby businesses will also benefit from the installation of the concrete box culvert.
