Flooding from Hurricane Matthew destroyed the station owned and operated by the Fair Bluff Fire Department and Rescue Squad, which served Fair Bluff and surrounding areas of Columbus County. FEMA funding and insurance proceeds were not sufficient to replace the station. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds supported the design, engineering, and construction of a new station on donated land located outside of the floodplain.
