The purpose of this grant was to provide funding to Cape Fear Community College in support of the Production Technician Program to meet the growing employment demands of manufacturing industries in the area. This pre-employment program provided training in core industry-wide skills required for production occupations in all sectors of manufacturing. It was designed to run for 120 hours over three weeks, after which the participants were immediately interviewed for jobs by employers. The training topics were selected by local employers and included safety, production and processes, quality, and maintenance awareness. Seven companies with 237 projected new positions could have benefited from a production technician program. Golden LEAF funds were used for software, supplies, and equipment.
