Description:
This award provides funding to Piedmont Community College Foundation, Inc. to support the expansion of Piedmont Community College’s (PCC) truck driving program to meet both employer demand for drivers and student demand for training. PCC has outgrown its borrowed training pad and the waitlist for CDL training exceeds current capacity. With an additional instructor, truck and trailer, and a larger driving pad, the college will increase enrollment to 60 students annually from its current level of 26 students. Those earning academic credential would increase from 18 to 44 annually with 100% of those earning CDL and forklift certifications. The new pad would be located at PCC’s South Campus. Golden LEAF funds will be used for the construction of a 90,000-square-foot CDL pad, a truck and trailer, and personnel.
