This grant provides funding to the Town of Burgaw to remedy stormwater infrastructure problems in critical areas around Pender Memorial Hospital. Stormwater issues can limit access to the hospital by patients and emergency vehicles and also inhibit development of surrounding properties and expansion of services at the hospital. The Town expects that as a result of the improvements, the hospital and surrounding medical practices will create over twenty new jobs. Golden LEAF funds will complement funds from the Town of Burgaw, Pender Memorial Hospital, and the State of North Carolina.
