Flooding as a result of Hurricane Florence damaged the Pembroke Rescue Squad (PRS) building, destroyed a rescue truck and damaged equipment. Repair of the building will require the PRS to bring the building into code compliance. Elevation is not an option given the location of the building. The PRS proposes to relocate the station out of the floodplain and has acquired a building that will be suitable following renovation. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used for construction and renovation of a building to serve as the new Pembroke Rescue Squad station. PRS is pursuing FEMA Public Assistance for this project. Insurance proceeds are also available for some of the damage caused by the storm.
