Flooding as a result of Hurricane Dorian damaged the Ocracoke School campus. Due to the substantial damage, the buildings will require elevation in addition to repair. Hyde County Schools is in the process of developing a strategy to enable students to return to campus in modular classrooms while repairs are made in phases. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used to enable repair and elevate buildings on campus. Flood insurance proceeds, a direct appropriation from the N.C. General Assembly, and federal disaster relief funds available to educational institutions, and FEMA Public Assistance will be used to complete the project.
