Flooding as a result of Hurricane Dorian damaged the Ocracoke School campus. Due to the substantial damage, the buildings required elevation in addition to repair. Hyde County Schools developed a strategy to enable students to return to campus in modular classrooms while repairs were made in phases. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds will be used to enable repair and elevate buildings on campus. Flood insurance proceeds, a direct appropriation from the N.C. General Assembly, federal disaster relief funds available to educational institutions, and FEMA Public Assistance are being used to complete the project.
