The purpose of this grant was to support Halifax Community College (HCC) in providing its nursing students with focused clinical experiences and remediation opportunities as it reached full-capacity enrollment in the ADN program. In addition to upgrading its simulation lab, HCC hired an enrollment/retention specialist and provided professional development to staff to ensure optimal delivery of instruction. The college anticipated that the project would improve nursing graduation rates, better prepare its nursing students to pass the NCLEX (nursing licensure exam) and fill vacant nursing jobs in the area. Golden LEAF funds were used for simulation equipment, professional development, and personnel.
