This grant provided funding to the River City Community Development Corporation (RCCDC) to develop a trades training center in the business district of Pasquotank County. It was anticipated that the center would house training that initially focused on industry-recognized certifications in plumbing and landscaping, including the Home Builders Institute-PACT Curriculum. RCCDC was expected to recruit 30-35 adults who were under/unemployed and/or dislocated workers from within a six-county area of northeastern North Carolina to participate in the program. Components of the project included providing participants with 12 months of instruction and hands-on work experience repairing low-income housing in partnership with area businesses followed by 12 months of job placement follow up. Golden LEAF funds were used for a project coordinator, renovation costs, equipment and tools, operating expenses, and outreach.
