Heavy precipitation as a result of Hurricane Matthew resulted in inflow/ infiltration of the Town of Parmele’s sewer collection system. Excessive inflow/ infiltration contributed to sewer overflows at a manhole located across a road from the sewer pump station. This overflow released sewage into a tributary of Flat Swamp. The inflow/ infiltration and overflows also contributed to the collapse of a road shoulder at the same location. Golden LEAF Hurricane Matthew Disaster Recovery grant funds will be used to replace the damaged sewer line at the site of the overflow and stabilize the road shoulder.
