Hurricane Matthew caused rapid stormwater runoff that contributed to the failure of stormwater infrastructure under Mill Street in the Town of Fountain. The failure was evidenced by sinkholes in the Town’s stormwater right-of-way and partial collapse of sections of the street. This stormwater infrastructure supported one of Town’s four drainage basins, which consisted of approximately 52 residences, 10 businesses, and other commercial buildings. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were used to replace the existing stormwater infrastructure under Mill Street to avoid further damage.
