The Town of Canton experiences flooding along Meadowbrook Drive during hurricanes and other large unnamed storms. After Tropical Storm Fred, approximately 100 feet of the existing 60-inch corrugated metal pipe was found to have joint failure that led to a collapse of overlying soils in the rear yard of 50 Rhoda Street. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used to replace the existing infrastructure along Meadowbrook Drive. The project will also include an NCDOT headwall on the upstream end of the culvert. Households in the immediate area, a child development center, the local middle school, the local high school, and nearby businesses will also benefit from this project.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
