Description:
Backstreet and Long Street experience flooding resulting from a lack of stormwater infrastructure. The roads and surrounding area experience intermittent flooding, resulting in road overtopping along Backstreet, Long Street, and Jefferson Avenue. Town funds have been used for repairs and construction of a berm alongside a home that floods. A business owner has installed drainage piping and has agreed to install detention systems on private property to help address the flooding. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used for engineering and construction to install approximately 455 linear feet of 18″ stormwater drain line and construct a total of seven catch basins/drop inlets to improve drainage and remove the stormwater from the street surface. Households and businesses in the immediate area will benefit from this project.
