This grant provided funding to the Center for Public Leadership and Governance (CPLG) at the UNC School of Government to offer financial support for professional development for approximately 1,300 mid- and entry-level professionals (department director and below) and local elected officials from municipalities with a mayor-council form of government. The training was expected to provide the fundamental skills needed to help communities in Tier 1 counties operate efficiently and effectively. The program supported attendance of over 2,500 professionals and elected officials in the following programs: 1) Fundamental and Advanced Supervisory Practices courses; 2) continuing education courses in core competencies for local government professionals, and skills in basic legal and fiduciary obligations, service management, and planning and administration for elected officials; and 3) organizational scholarships for customized advising and training to allow small jurisdictions to address specific capacity development priorities. Golden LEAF funds were used for sponsorship of supervisory practices courses, scholarships, customized advising and training, outreach, and project management.
