Hurricane Matthew caused flooding at the Lenoir County Cooperative Extension building and adjacent livestock arena. The buildings were submerged in several feet of water, making them unusable and causing Cooperative Extension staff to temporarily relocate to space in downtown Kinston. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were used for the replacement of the Cooperative Extension building and the elevation of the lot to mitigate the risk of future flooding. Golden LEAF funds complemented insurance proceeds that were also used for this project.
