The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Johnston County for the expansion of the East Clayton Industrial Area wastewater pump station (ECIA WWPS). The pump station serves a regional biotech/ pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster that includes Grifols Therapeutics Inc. and Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals Industries, Inc. Grifols is completing the licensing of an $800 million fractionation facility. Novo Nordisk has begun a $102 million expansion to increase its production capacity that will lead to job creation. To accommodate increased flow from the Grifols and Novo Nordisk expansions, the County must immediately expand the ECIA WWPS. Golden LEAF funds will be used for costs related to upgrading the pump station.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
