This award provides funding to support the creation of the new Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine, which will be located in Fayetteville. The project will result in the creation of new jobs at the medical school and hiring of new physicians to serve as clinical faculty for medical students completing clinical rotations. At full enrollment, the school will have 480 students, with 120 graduates each year. It is expected that 60 graduates annually will complete residencies in the Cape Fear Valley Health System, which serves Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland Counties. These counties have some of the worst health outcomes in the state. After completing their residencies, 40 doctors are expected to stay and practice in the region each year, creating additional jobs and providing much needed health care in Eastern North Carolina. Golden LEAF funding will be used for instructional equipment for the new medical school building.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
