Description:

This grant provided funding to Davie County Schools for the “Innovative Spaces and Instruction in STEM and CTE” initiative at the new Davie County High School that opened in the fall of 2017. The project was designed to improve high school students’ employability in two critical areas: technical skills and soft skills. Support from Golden LEAF provided Davie County High School with learning spaces for students and prepared STEM and Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers and staff to use project-based instructional practices to enhance student learning. A STEM Innovation Lab and state-of-the-art CTE labs were developed to support industry-aligned learning options designed to strengthen students’ technical skills and their ability to engage in critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and other employability skills required for success in the 21st-century workplace. Golden LEAF funds were used to purchase STEM and CTE equipment and materials for the Culinary, Horticulture, and Automotive CTE Programs and provided professional development for teachers and staff.
