This grant provides funding to the Junaluska Sanitary District to support the expansion of sewer service along Highway 209 to Riverbend School. The infrastructure will serve the school, businesses, and residences and create new opportunities for economic growth at the underdeveloped intersection of Highway 209 and Interstate 40. The school’s septic system is nearing the end of its useful life and cannot be readily expanded. In addition to facilitating development at the highway intersection, the sewer will serve businesses located there that currently rely on failing on-site treatment systems, thereby aiding in the retention of 79 jobs. Golden LEAF funds will be used for costs related to the sewer line extension.
