Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to economic opportunity. Following major disasters, Legal Aid provides legal services to survivors regardless of income. Legal Aid is a Voluntary Organization Active in Disasters. They are also a member of the State Emergency Response Team and a member of the State Disaster Recovery Task Force. Golden LEAF grant funds will be used for salaries/benefits and direct onboarding expenses for four case coordinators to respond to needs resulting from Hurricane Helene.
