This award provides funding to Cleveland County Schools (CCS) to expand the district’s healthcare education pathway participation. This project is specifically designed to address the needs of 150 at-risk high school students at CCS’s alternative school, Turning Point Academy, who are not adequately prepared for post-secondary opportunities at the community college. CCS plans to enroll the 150 students at Turning Point Academy in a foundational health science course each year to introduce them to careers in Allied Health Sciences and prepare them for future coursework at the community college’s Health Science Academy. This exposure is expected to lead to 50 students completing the CTE health sciences pathway and 20 earning academic credentials from Cleveland Community College. Golden LEAF funds will be used for personnel, renovations, equipment, supplies, furniture, and transportation.
