Description:

This grant funds Halifax County to assist Halifax Community College (HCC) in addressing a critical lack of an adequate water supply, resulting in water flow issues campus wide. To alleviate the problem, HCC’s engineer recommended that HCC connect to the Town of Weldon’s municipal water supply, loop a new 12-inch water line throughout the campus, and install a pump to boost water pressure. Additionally, connection to the Town of Weldon’s system will provide access to an elevated water storage tank, offering the crucial water supply needed for fire protection. Beyond addressing safety issues, these infrastructure improvements will enhance the College’s ability to offer courses/programs requiring this additional water flow. Outcomes associated with the project include an investment of $2,299,384 in publicly owned infrastructure, as well as increases in the number of students completing a continuing ed course/program and increases in the number of students earning a 3rd party credential.
