Farmer Foodshare: Post-Pandemic Food Hub Program Revitalization, Diversification & Expansion Project

Organization:
FARMER FOODSHARE
Amount:
$58,333.00
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:
Durham
Year:
2023
Description:

This award provides funding to Farmer Foodshare, Inc., a food aggregator and distributor, to be used to purchase and upfit a sprinter van for cold transportation of produce. The organization’s current trucks are at full capacity and are much larger than the van. This smaller vehicle is needed to meet the demand of the organization’s growing CSA program for transportation of produce from smaller farms and delivery to consumers, restaurants, and smaller facilities. In 2024, it is expected that this project will add produce from 20 farmers to the CSA program and will increase revenue by $77,000 for farmers participating in the program. It is expected that an additional 30 farmers would be added by 2025, with an additional $25,000 in revenue generated for participating farmers .
