Description:
This award provides funding to Madison County Public Schools (MCPS) to support the addition of three new curriculum areas—electrical, HVAC, and plumbing—for the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Construction Trades Programs. The project is designed to improve high school students’ employability with in-depth training in technical skills and hands-on experience. The MCPS Construction Trades Program is partnering with local industrial, commercial, and residential construction and multi-trades services companies with carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and electrical power line divisions. The companies provide classroom speakers and consultants, and training in construction topics and on related equipment. The companies also provide work-based learning experiences and possible employment to students. The Madison County Schools Construction Trades Programs expects to graduate approximately 30 students per year. Golden LEAF funds are being used for tools and equipment, curriculum materials and student credentialing, and building supplies.
