This award provides funding to Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) to expand automotive technology pathway opportunities to its Cabarrus Business Technology Complex (CBTC) annex in Cabarrus County. RCCC, which has 5 campuses in Rowan and Cabarrus counties, currently offers Automotive Systems Technology at its North Campus in Rowan County. RCCC plans to renovate 5,039 square feet at CBTC to create a facility that will support curriculum-based and continuing education certifications in the automotive technology pathway. Local employers report ongoing challenges filling vacancies, and this project will prepare students with the necessary skills to meet the demands of the region’s automotive workforce. RCCC anticipates that 12 additional students will be trained in the Automotive Systems Technology program and 137 continuing education students will receive On- Board Diagnostics Certification II and/or Auto Safety certifications annually. Golden LEAF funds will be used for personnel, construction, and equipment.
