This grant provided funding to Catawba Valley Community College to establish testing and production capabilities for biotextiles at the Manufacturing Solutions Center (MSC) in Conover, NC. The production line was expected to have the capacity to take yarn produced by NC companies and treat it with pharmaceuticals to create biotextiles, which offered an alternative method for delivering medicines. The biotextiles would then be prepared for knitting into finished activewear products by other companies. MSC expected 25 NC companies to begin developing biotextile products. Golden LEAF funds were used to purchase product development and validation equipment.
