This grant funded Brevard College to develop a program to train agricultural education teachers and produce graduates versed in agricultural production in western North Carolina. Few programs in the state trained agricultural education teachers, and there was no program in the west, yet the need for agricultural education teachers was significant. At the time of application in 2016, there were expected to be over 60 open positions in North Carolina. Golden LEAF funds were used to hire a full-time faculty member trained in agricultural education and to purchase a greenhouse and supplies for training students in agricultural practices.
