Description:

The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to assist the City of Kinston and Lenoir County with Phase I architectural and engineering plans to establish a Civil War museum in downtown Kinston to preserve the CSS Neuse, one of only three ironclad Civil War gunboats on display in the world. The project will serve as a hub for 26 other Civil War sites that are being packaged to promote cultural and heritage tourism in eastern North Carolina and the state.
