This grant funded the Ocracoke Foundation, Inc. (OFI) to install a wastewater system at the Community Square development, located in the Town of Ocracoke and owned by OFI. Community Square housed nine locally owned businesses and two docks that served four maritime businesses. Lack of modern wastewater hindered sustainability and expansion of business activity at the site. Having a wastewater system resulted in the creation of new full-time and part-time jobs and additional hours of operation for some businesses which benefited existing employees. A wastewater system also leveraged loan options and donor support for the entire Community Square revitalization project. Golden LEAF funds were used for the wastewater system.
