Hurricane Matthew caused extensive flooding in the Town of Cerro Gordo. The well house for one of the Town’s two wells was inundated with two and a half feet of water. The building, the chlorinator, and equipment were damaged. FEMA Public Assistance was not adequate to pay for all needed repairs. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funding will be used to repair the building and the well equipment supply. To improve resiliency, Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funding will also be used to establish a cross-connection with Columbus County’s water system. This connection would provide the Town a backup system for use in an emergency.
