The grant provided funding to the Town of Cerro Gordo to repair damage caused by extensive flooding from Hurricane Matthew to the well house for one of the Town’s two wells, which was inundated with two and a half feet of water. The building, the chlorinator, and equipment were damaged. FEMA Public Assistance was not adequate to pay for all needed repairs. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were used to repair the building and the well equipment supply. To improve resiliency, Golden LEAF funds were also used to establish a cross-connection with Columbus County’s water system. This connection provided the Town a backup system for use in an emergency.
