This Golden LEAF grant provided support to Caswell County to improve the performance of students in Math I. Funds were used to establish and equip three middle school lab and one high school lab to be used for in-school instruction and extended learning through after-school tutoring. At the time of the award only 38% of students in Caswell County Schools were passing Math I, which was significantly below the state average of 60%. With Golden LEAF support, teachers were able to provide after-school tutoring and STEM experiences through Pitsco learning labs and provide transportation home for targeted Math I students. All math and science teachers at the schools were trained to integrate the STEM labs into their core instruction through project-based instruction.
