This award provides funding to Carteret Community College Foundation, Inc. to support Carteret Community College’s Carteret Works program in partnership with Carteret County Public Schools, local businesses, and NCWorks. The project aims to increase the pipeline of students into the regional workforce by connecting high school and college students and disconnected adults to local businesses for paid opportunities where they can gain real-world experience, earn high school and college credits, and acquire industry-recognized credentials. The program will focus on three career fields: healthcare, trades, and hospitality and culinary, and expects to have 45 students complete a career field annually by the program’s third year. Each completer will earn a third party or industry credential, receive employability training to prepare for a professional work environment, and participate in an internship or apprenticeship. Golden LEAF funds will be used for staffing, travel, professional development, student stipends and transportation, educational expenses, supplies, and consultation.
