Hurricane Florence damaged the shoreline at the campus of Carteret Community College. Existing protective measures were swept away resulting in erosion of the bank. There are four buildings located directly on the damaged bank. Carteret Community College has worked with an engineering firm to develop a proposal to repair the shoreline and enhance protection from future storms. These measures include replacement of eroded dirt, addition of more stone, and conversion of a section to a living shoreline. Repairs should prevent future erosion and protect buildings. Golden LEAF grant funds will be used with FEMA and college funds to enable completion of the project.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
