This award provides funding to Harnett County Schools (HCS) to support a comprehensive workforce development initiative that is expected to expand Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. This initiative focuses on enhancing the attainment of industry-recognized credentials and strengthening alignment with high-demand regional sectors, particularly in healthcare, skilled trades, and sustainable agriculture. Key components include enhanced dual-enrollment partnerships with Central Carolina Community College (CCCC), expanded paid internship opportunities with county and industry partners, and investments in modern instructional spaces and equipment. HCS expects to increase the number of students graduating with a CCCC credential by 30 annually, from 38 to 68 students. The number of students completing a CTE pathway and engaging in work-based learning will increase by 100 annually for a total of 426 CTE completers and 250 students with work-based learning experiences. Golden LEAF funds will be used for equipment/supplies, construction, professional development, personnel, participant support, transportation, and laptops.
