The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Burke County for use by the County and the North Carolina Department of Commerce to evaluate the possible redevelopment of historic Broughton Hospital, which will be closing upon completion of construction of a new hospital in the County. Golden LEAF funds will be combined with $200,000 in State funds and $100,000 from other sources, including $25,000 in private contributions, to support a study of real estate reuse and development opportunities and for asset mapping of the campus for future job creation and economic development strategies based on regional strengths and marketplace opportunities.
