Tropical Storm Julia and Hurricane Matthew flooded Bertie County’s Cooperative Extension Service building and its public library. Funding available from FEMA was not sufficient to replace these facilities. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were used for planning, design, and engineering for a new building located outside of the floodplain that housed the library and cooperative extension offices.
