Description:

The purpose of this grant is to support the Bent Creek Institute in western North Carolina. The Bent Creek Institute promotes economic development in western North Carolina by capitalizing on public interest in natural products, holistic and plant-based health treatment. The Institute is identifying opportunities to help North Carolina’s farmers take advantage of high value crop. The Institute also houses the Bent Creek Germplasm Repository, which is North America’s only medicinal plant germplasm collection. During the grant term, Bent Creek expects to further develop the germplasm repository, provide product development assistance to as many as thirty companies, and further development of a proprietary black cohosh cultivar.
