Digital Communications Specialist

The Golden LEAF Foundation seeks a motivated, detail-oriented, quick learner to join the team at Golden LEAF responsible for external-facing activities of the Foundation. The focus of this role is to support all Golden LEAF Foundation and Golden LEAF Scholarship social media, website, email, graphic design, and other related needs. This role reports to the Communications and External Affairs Manager and works closely with the Scholarship Program Manager.

Primary Functions

Website

  • Regularly maintain the Golden LEAF Foundation and Golden LEAF Scholarship websites, including making regular updates to content as directed including newsletter articles, press releases, Programs resource pages
  • Regularly monitor the Golden LEAF Foundation and Golden LEAF Scholarship websites to ensure content is up to date and flag needed updates
  • Post and format news articles, press releases, and other content as directed

Social Media

  • Develop social media calendar following guidance provided for overall communications calendar
  • Manage full range of work including drafting, posting, and monitoring social media accounts

Email

  • Format content for regular email newsletters, press releases, and outreach
  • Manage email contact database

Graphic Design

  • Create graphic elements for use on website, social media, and email newsletters
  • Develops and designs one-pagers/handouts
  • Format and update PowerPoint/Google Slides presentations 

Other

  • Support video editing and related needs of the Foundation
  • Reviews, analyzes, and tracks metrics associated with website, social media, and email and develops recommendations

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years experience relevant to the Primary Functions of the Digital Communications Specialist position listed above 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of common online tools including Canva (or similar design tool), MailChimp (or similar email service), Co-Schedule or Later (or similar social media scheduling tool) and common software programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years experience performing nearly all of the Primary Functions of the Digital Communications Specialist position listed above
  • Experience following an established Brand Guide or similar when designing and executing various deliverables
  • Experience using project management tools to track and manage tasks. Golden LEAF uses Asana and Airtable

Location
This position will be based at the Golden LEAF offices at 301 N. Winstead Avenue in Rocky Mount, NC. Golden LEAF staff are required to work from the office Mondays and Thursdays, with the option to work remotely the remainder of the week. This role will be asked to work from Rocky Mount on a more frequent basis as needed for collaboration with the External Affairs team.

This is a part-time position scheduled up to 25 hours per week. This part-time position may establish their own regular work schedule within Golden LEAF’s core business hours of 8:30am and 5pm, subject to approval by their supervisor. This position will be expected to participate in regular All Staff meetings and other External Affairs meetings, which may be scheduled outside of the regular work schedule.

  • Operates in a professional office environment and performs primarily sedentary work.
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, and phones.
  • Sits for prolonged periods at a desk. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional stooping, reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling.
  • Repetitive use of fingers and hands for typings and other tasks.
  • Frequent listening, speaking, and use of visual acuity.
  • Occasional lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to use all senses to safely drive a vehicle, and ability to drive a vehicle.

Compensation and Benefits
The Communications Specialist position is a part-time position with compensation and benefits commensurate with responsibilities and experience. This position has an anticipated hiring range of $30 – $45 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, and is anticipated to work an average of 25 hours per week.

Golden LEAF provides the following benefits to employees:

  • Golden LEAF paid contributions to a retirement plan at the rate of ten percent (10%) of base salary with no required contribution by the employee.

  • Paid time off including annual leave, sick leave, and holidays.

Timeline
Interviews will be conducted beginning the week of May 14, 2024. Priority will be given to applications submitted by June 1, 2024. 

Applications will be reviewed and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis and the position filled once the successful candidate is identified. This role has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024 or later.

Golden LEAF will conduct a criminal background check and may conduct additional background checks and drug tests of applicants as a condition of employment.
