Description:
This award provides funding for technology needed for training rooms, simulation equipment, and equipment for clinical skills instruction to support the expansion of the Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) at East Carolina University (ECU). With $265 million from the State of North Carolina, ECU is constructing a new Center for Medical Education (CME). The CME will allow BSOM to increase its medical school class cohorts from 100 to 120 students, its physician assistant program from 36 to 48 students, and the number of residents and fellows that train at ECU by 89. The expansion will position BSOM to significantly increase clinicians in rural North Carolina where the shortages are most severe. ECU has a strong record of retaining graduates in North Carolina, and particularly in eastern North Carolina. Golden LEAF funds may be used for improvements to the technology in the Learning Studio and the Whitebox Simulation Room, for equipment, software, and related expenses for the expansion of simulation training at the CME, and for equipment needed to expand the clinical skills learning and training spaces.
